I love this little painting, as much a still life as a nature image. I particularly like the contrast of the weathered wood and rusted iron with the softness of the bird. Dr. David Goltra, a wonderful nature photographer with a painterly eye, is generous in allowing me to draw from his images. He photographed this Prothonotary Warbler near Congaree National Park. The Prothonotary Warbler is widely distributed, and often can be found near swampy areas.
